Tang Soo Do

London Black Belt Academy
As part of our youth engagement programme, we have teamed with the London Black Belt Tang Soo Do Academy. Working in partnership with the martial arts academy we have produced a cadre of black belt students through operating an inclusive community engagement programme over the last 10 years.
We have seen our young children grow from insecure young people into disciplined and confident human beings. Many hundreds of youngsters, Muslim, Non-Muslim, black, white, or asian, male, and female have and continue to benefit from this programme.
Tang Soo Do Sessions Every Thursday at 7:30pm-9pm
& Saturdays 11:45am-12:45pm.
Meet The Instructors
Master Kieran Mackey
My name is Kieran Mackey and I am from Ireland. I came to England 32 years ago and have always lived in East London. I have been teaching Karate in Newham Leisure Centre for 30 Years and the Mosque for 10 Years.
I teach Karate to all ages, starting from as little as 5, all the way up to 55. I believe the service I provide teaches individuals discipline, confidence and self esteem. I am grateful to the Mosque as they have opened their door to cultural diversity, everyone is welcome and anyone can train here. This has created respect and dignity and has helped all my students to grow in an effective way.
I enjoy teaching especially when I see a child improve, laugh, feel good about themselves when learning a new kick, or when entering a competition.
I have seen additional benefits also where fathers and mothers have told me that their children’s school work has also improved as a result of the discipline and work ethos that they learn in my karate classes.
Anthony Ottley
My name is Anthony Ottley and I have practised Tang Soo Do for nearly 20 years and have reached the rank of 4th Dan. I’ve competed all around the world and have won numerous British, European and World titles.
I believe Tang Soo Do is important because it provides an environment for students to build their confidence and self-esteem; achieve their fitness goals; and make new friends all whilst having fun.
My students have the opportunity to progress up the ranks and become a black belt. They also have opportunities to compete and win medals and trophies – challenging themselves to perform against students from other clubs. Some of my life-long friends have actually been forged in the heat of battle.
Being a Karate Instructor, I have the opportunity to provide a service to the community that I have personally found to be invaluable. I hope that I will inspire the next generation to achieve their goals in life and to give back to their own communities.
